Gunman of IAS officer opens fire in Jalandhar; one injured

Jalandhar, June 21: An incident of firing took place near PIMS hospital in Jalandhar on Saturday morning. Punjab cadre IAS officer Babita Kaler’s  gunman opened fire on a man, injuring him in the leg. The injured has been admitted to the hospital. The gunman who fired the shot was with Babita Kaler’s husband Stephen Kaler.

According to the information, some people had come to get soil filled in their plot. At that time, Stephen, who lives in front, came out with his gunman and after an argument, the gunman opened fire. The plot owners allege that an attempt was being made to occupy their plot.

Let us tell you that Stephen Kaler has earlier been a senior leader of Aam Aadmi Party in Jalandhar Rural and is still associated with the party. The police is investigating the matter.

There was a dispute over putting soil in the plot

On Saturday, in Baradari, a posh area of ​​Jalandhar, a dispute arose between two parties over putting soil in a plot, which escalated so much that a bullet was fired. In this incident, a person named Harpreet Singh was seriously injured. The bullet passed through one of his legs and hit the other leg as well. He has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The plot owners alleged that attempts were being made to occupy their plots. During the dispute, government gunman Ashwini opened fire. This gunman was with Stephen Kaler, husband of Punjab cadre IAS officer Babita Kaler. As soon as the shot was fired, people from the vicinity gathered at the spot. Police have started investigating the case.

Stephen said- the gunman fired in self-defence

Aam Aadmi Party leader Stephen Kaler said- People who had come to dump soil on the plot were asked to talk to the owner. I was made to talk to the plot owners and I went inside. But during this, the people who had come to dump soil on the plot started fighting with the gunman and used abusive language. They tried to assault him, due to which the gunman fired in self-defense.

According to the information received, Babita Kaler’s daughter Rushali Kaler has also cracked UPSC. Currently, she is yet to be allotted a cadre. Two years ago, Babita Kaler’s daughter Rushali Kaler had secured 492nd rank in the UPSC exam.

ACP said- shell recovered from the spot

ACP Jagroop Kaur said- Information was received about firing at the incident site. One person has been injured in this incident. ACP admitted that the bullet was fired by a government employee. People have also recovered the bullet shell from the spot. People have accused the police of taking action. At the same time, ACP Jagroop said- At present the matter is being investigated. Further action will be taken after the investigation.
