New Delhi, July 20: The Monsoon Session of Parliament is starting tomorrow i.e. 21st July. It will continue for a full month i.e. till 21st August. The last time Parliament proceedings took place was during the budget session in March and April. After this, a lot has happened in the last 108 days, from the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor to the Air India crash. There is bound to be uproar on these issues in the Monsoon Session.
Senior journalist Neerja Chaudhary, who wrote the book ‘How Prime Ministers Decide’, has been doing political journalism for 40 years. She says, ‘There can be a lot of uproar in the monsoon session. Issues like Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, deteriorating relations with Russia, US President Trump’s ceasefire claims, Air India plane crash can dominate.’
‘Apart from this, everyone’s eyes will be on the issues related to Bihar. This will be the last Parliament session before the assembly elections in Bihar.’
1. Pahalgam terror attack and its related investigation
It has been almost 3 months since the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir on 22 April. In this attack, terrorists killed 26 Indians. Till now the terrorists involved in the attack have not been traced. In such a situation, the opposition will try to corner the government by raising the issue of Pahalgam attack and its failure to investigate.
2. Questions on Operation Sindoor and foreign policy
After the Pahalgam attack, India launched Operation Sindoor against terrorists in Pakistan. Since then, the opposition has been repeatedly raising questions on India’s foreign policy. It is demanding information about the losses suffered by India in this operation.
In such a situation, Congress and INDIA Block are preparing to ask questions to the government regarding Operation Sindoor. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has said that like the Kargil war, Operation Sindoor should also be discussed in Parliament.
3. Air India plane crash
On June 12, 2025, 260 people died when an Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad. Now questions are being raised on the cause of the accident, investigation and transparency. Questions are also being raised on the initial investigation report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau. Congress and other opposition parties will question the responsibility for the plane crash.
4. Special Intensive Revision in Bihar
Assembly elections are to be held in Bihar at the end of the year. The Election Commission is running a campaign of Special Intensive Revision to prepare the voter list afresh. This can cause the most uproar in the Parliament. Opposition parties can unite against BJP on this issue.
The opposition has accused the Election Commission of irregularities and lack of transparency in its work. It claims that irregularities have occurred in this process. Congress and Samajwadi Party will jointly corner the government on this issue.
5. Manipur Violence
It has been more than two years since the Manipur violence started in May 2023. Till now the problem remains the same. The entire state is divided into Kuki and Meitei areas. People of both the communities cannot go to each other’s area.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition parties have been raising the issue of Manipur. The demand to solve the Manipur problem and end President’s rule in the state can be raised in Parliament. BJP can bring a proposal demanding extension of President’s rule.
6. Indian foreign policy and China border dispute
Congress has been alleging that the Modi government’s foreign policy has been weak and soft towards China. In such a situation, the opposition can demand answers on the border dispute with China, recent tensions and Chinese claims.
Apart from this, Congress is also preparing to question the government on India’s foreign policy after Operation Sindoor. The central government had sent all-party delegations to different countries to present India’s side on Operation Sindoor.
