Odisha: In Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, an 18-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped by two men while returning home with a friend, taken to a farmland, and gang-raped, police reported on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm on Monday, and the survivor is currently in critical condition at the district hospital.

According to her father’s police complaint, the woman was returning from a birthday celebration in another village when they were attacked. The assailants took her to a farmland where they subjected her to gang rape, while her friend managed to escape.

Jagatsinghpur BJP MLA Amarendra Das assured that a manhunt is underway to apprehend the accused, stating, “Stringent action will be taken against the culprits” after speaking with the Superintendent of Police.

Police officers, including Pravas Sahoo from Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station, visited the crime scene and recovered a mobile phone. The woman was brought to the hospital bleeding heavily, and police officers are questioning her friend and mother to gather more details.

The incident has added to a rising wave of crimes against women in the state, sparking protests by opposition parties, which accuse the BJP-led government of failing to maintain law and order. BJD leader Priyabrat Mohapatra stated, “We will gherao the SP office until all the culprits are arrested.”
