New Delhi: Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has criticised the police following the recent firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff, questioning whether law enforcement agencies are giving sufficient attention to serious crimes while detaining students and activists protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
In a post on X on Sunday, Dipke argued that the police should concentrate on tackling criminals rather than taking action against students and activists participating in demonstrations.
“Instead of cracking down on students and activists, the police should focus on actual criminals. This is what happens when the Govt and police have their priorities completely misplaced,” he wrote.
His remarks came amid public attention surrounding the firing incident linked to Tiger Shroff, which has also brought questions of security and the police response into focus.
Abhijeet Dipke Links Police Priorities to Jantar Mantar Detentions
Dipke’s criticism comes against the backdrop of recent demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, where several students and activists were reportedly detained by Delhi Police. His post draws a comparison between the action taken against protesters and the need to address incidents involving violence and other serious criminal activity.
The Cockroach Janata Party founder suggested that law enforcement agencies should direct their attention towards preventing crime and dealing with those responsible for criminal acts, rather than focusing on demonstrators.
The remarks have added another dimension to the ongoing debate over how police balance the management of public protests with their responsibility to investigate crimes and maintain security.
Tiger Shroff Firing Incident Sparks Debate on Policing
Dipke’s statement has also drawn criticism from those who believe he is using a high-profile incident involving a celebrity to advance a political argument about police action against protesters.
Critics maintain that managing demonstrations and maintaining order at designated public spaces such as Jantar Mantar are legitimate responsibilities of the police. They argue that action against protesters cannot, by itself, be taken as evidence that authorities are neglecting serious criminal cases.
Supporters of Dipke, however, contend that detentions of young protesters, alongside reports of serious criminal incidents, raise legitimate questions about the priorities of law enforcement agencies and how their resources are deployed.
Police Yet to Respond to Dipke’s Allegations
The controversy has renewed discussion on social media about the dual responsibilities of the police: managing public demonstrations while responding effectively to violent crime and security threats.
Dipke’s intervention has further divided opinion over whether the authorities are allocating sufficient attention to the threats that pose the greatest risk to public safety.
As of the time of reporting, Delhi Police had not issued an official response to Dipke’s specific allegations.
