Gurdaspur (Punjab): A speeding private bus collided with a bus stop in Gurdaspur, Punjab after its brakes failed. Four people died in the accident, and more than 15 people were injured and have been admitted to different hospitals for treatment. A video of the bus crashing into the bus stop has surfaced on social media.
All the deceased were residents of village Shahbad. The Rajdhani Company bus was carrying more than 40 passengers, according to the passengers. CM Bhagwant Mann and Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa have expressed grief over the accident. Gurdaspur police have reached the spot and started an investigation.
A private bus traveling from Batala to Mohali experienced brake failure near the bus stop in the village of Shahbad. As a result, the bus crashed through the stop and the lintel of the stop broke and entered the bus. Additionally, a bike and a scooty were also trapped under the bus.
After the incident, bystanders immediately began efforts to rescue the injured. The injured have been transported to Batala Civil Hospital by ambulance, while the bodies of the deceased have been placed in Batala mortuary. As of now, the deceased individuals have not been identified. Unfortunately, the bus driver is among the deceased.
CM Bhagwant Mann posted about the accident on social media, stating that a bus has crashed on Batala-Qadian Road, resulting in the tragic death of some individuals and serious injuries to other passengers. He also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured that the Punjab government is providing support to the affected families.
