In the town of Mullapur Dakha in Ludhiana, a 35-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in the village of Akalgarh Kalan, which falls under the jurisdiction of the local police station. The circumstances under which he hanged himself are currently under investigation. The deceased has been identified as Amarjeet Singh, also known as Deepu, a resident of Akalgarh Kalan.
The body was sent to Civil Hospital Ludhiana for postmortem.
The police received information early Saturday morning, following which the team reached the spot. The police removed the body from the hanging, completed the documentation, and sent the body to Civil Hospital Ludhiana for postmortem. No suicide note was found during the search of the scene or the house.
Based on the statement of the deceased’s wife, the police have begun proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The wife told the police that Amarjeet Singh had been released on bail from Ludhiana Central Jail a few days ago and had been going through mental stress since then.
Family members found the body hanging
According to information, on Friday night, family members were sleeping in the courtyard of the house. Late at night, Amarjit Singh went into a room and committed suicide by hanging himself from the roof. In the morning, when family members entered the room, they found his body hanging. After this, the village council and the police were immediately informed.
Victim had a prior case for attempted extortion
The deceased’s wife has not expressed suspicion against anyone, nor mentioned any enmity. It is also noteworthy that Amarjit Singh alias Deepu had a prior case registered against him for attempted extortion.
Some time ago, his brother died from a drug overdose, after which he became active against drug traffickers and was in the news because of this. However, after being released on bail recently, he had started to remain quite calm.
Inspector Gurdeep Singh, in charge of police station improvements, stated that currently action has been taken under Section 174. After the postmortem report is received, if any suspicious aspect emerges, further legal action will be taken.
