New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has issued an ex-parte ad-interim injunction in favor of Telugu film star Allu Arjun. The court has restrained several entities from unauthorized commercial use of his name, image, voice, and other personality attributes, including through AI and deepfake technology.
Crackdown on AI and Fake Content
Justice Tushar Rao Gedela’s bench found that the actor’s identity was being misused to sell merchandise without permission, disseminate objectionable content, and even create fake calls using AI tools.
The court prohibited all such content and activities and directed the relevant platforms to remove the objectionable links within 72 hours.
Actor’s identity gets legal protection
The court acknowledged that Allu Arjun is a renowned and successful actor whose identity is linked to his dialogue, style, and personality.
The success of films like Pushpa: The Rise and Pushpa 2: The Rule has further cemented his “icon star” status.
Other celebrities have also approached the court
This case joins a number of high-profile cases where celebrities have approached the court to protect their personality rights.
These include Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Gavaskar, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Kajol, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Jubin Nautiyal, and Karan Johar.
