The railways have taken strict action against overcharging at Ambala Cantt railway station. The commercial department of the railways has taken action and sealed two shops.
This action was taken after receiving complaints of overcharging on Rail Neer and other food items. Senior Commercial Manager of Ambala Division Naveen Kumar Jha, said that this is not the first incident; such complaints have been coming in earlier as well.
The railways have made it clear that overcharging at the station and on the train will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The rest of the shopkeepers have also been warned that if they charge more than the fixed rate, strict action will be taken against them as well.
The practice of selling water bottles in trains without permission has started again in the summer season. The commercial team of Ambala Railway Division took action and recovered 65 water crates, i.e., 780 bottles, from Kamakhya Express (15656). All these were hidden in a coach.
As soon as the team reached the station, some people selling goods in the train fled from the spot.
The railway team has seized all the bottles, and a letter is being written to IRCTC in this matter, recommending action against the pantry operator.
Railways have made it clear that unauthorized goods and overcharging will not be tolerated at all in trains.
According to the information, unauthorized water bottles are sold to the passengers traveling in trains daily. The vendors sell at the rate of ₹ 20 per liter. Whereas authorized water is made available by the railways at ₹ 15 per liter. Sometimes passengers complain about this through the online medium and sometimes at the station.
