Amit Shah Presents President's Colour to Chandigarh Police on 60th Raising Day

Chandigarh: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday presented the prestigious President’s Colour to Chandigarh Police on the occasion of its 60th Raising Day, recognising the force’s six decades of dedicated service, professionalism and commitment to public safety.

Shah also reviewed the ceremonial parade and praised the police force for its contribution to maintaining law and order, improving emergency response services and adopting technology-driven policing initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, the Home Minister described the conferment of the President’s Colour as recognition of six decades of commitment, dedication and sensitivity towards citizens.

He also paid tribute to the personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, saying their sacrifice remained a matter of pride for the entire police force.

Congratulating Chandigarh Police personnel, Shah said the force had written an important chapter in India’s policing history through its consistent efforts since its establishment in 1966.

Chandigarh Police ranks second in response time

Highlighting the force’s operational efficiency, Shah said Chandigarh Police currently ranks second in the country in terms of prompt action and response time.

He announced that the addition of 141 new vehicles to the police fleet would further strengthen its operational capabilities and improve emergency response services.

Expressing confidence in the force, the Home Minister said the additional resources would help Chandigarh Police achieve the number one position in response time among police forces in the country by next year.

Shah also highlighted the city’s traffic management system, noting that Chandigarh has one of the highest numbers of vehicles per capita in the country but continues to maintain relatively smooth traffic movement.

Recalling his visits to the city, he said he had never witnessed a traffic jam in Chandigarh and often cited its traffic management as an example for other parts of the country.

He further stated that the Quick Response Team reaches locations within 10 minutes, while police personnel can arrive at incident sites in approximately four minutes.

Amit Shah says Chandigarh will become India’s first drug-free region

The Home Minister also expressed confidence that Chandigarh would become the first region in the country to achieve a completely drug-free status.

He emphasised the importance of sustained efforts against drug abuse and praised the police force for its role in maintaining public safety.

Shah’s remarks come amid the government’s continued focus on strengthening action against drug trafficking and substance abuse across the country.

Chandigarh Police praised for technology-driven services

Shah also appreciated Chandigarh Police for introducing digital platforms and technology-based initiatives that allow citizens to access various police services without visiting police stations.

He said policing should focus on providing accessible, efficient and citizen-friendly services.

Congratulating the force for its initiatives, he noted that the use of technology could make police services more convenient while improving public engagement.

Amit Shah highlights 85% conviction rate under new criminal laws

Referring to the implementation of the new criminal laws, the Home Minister said Chandigarh had recorded an 85 per cent conviction rate within 140 days.

He said effective implementation of the new criminal justice framework could help speed up the delivery of justice and reduce delays that have affected citizens for years.

Shah also recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the implementation of the new criminal laws from Chandigarh, replacing the colonial-era legal framework.

He expressed confidence that the new laws, if implemented effectively across the country, would bring significant improvements to the criminal justice system.

Chandigarh Police completes 60 years of service

Established in 1966, Chandigarh Police has completed six decades of service. Shah also recalled the force’s contribution during the period of terrorism, praising its courage and dedication in maintaining peace and security in Chandigarh and surrounding areas.

The presentation of the President’s Colour marks a significant milestone in the force’s history and recognises its contribution to policing and public service.

The 60th Raising Day celebrations brought attention to the force’s achievements, operational capabilities and ongoing efforts to modernise policing in the Union Territory.
