An encounter broke out between police and a gangster in Amritsar on Wednesday. Firing took place from both sides during the operation near the village of Mattewal. According to police, the accused fired approximately four to five rounds. In retaliation, he was shot in the leg. Police arrested him at the scene and took him to the hospital for treatment.

According to police, the operation was conducted under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Daljit Singh, SHO of Mattewal Police Station. After the accused opened fire during the encounter, police retaliated and injured him.
The accused has been identified as Harman Singh, son of Harjinder Singh, resident of Boparai. According to police, Harman Singh was wanted in several criminal cases, including the shooting of a man in village Boparai.

Upon receiving information about the encounter, Amritsar Rural SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal arrived at the scene. He was accompanied by SPD Ramandeep Singh, DSPD Gurinderpal Singh Nagra, CIA staff in-charge Ajaypal Singh, and SHO of Mattewal Police Station Daljit Singh, among other police officers.
Forensic team collects evidence
Following the incident, a forensic team also arrived at the scene and began investigating. The team is collecting necessary evidence from the scene. Police are investigating the weapon the accused possessed, the circumstances of the shooting, and other cases registered against him.
The injured accused is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. Police are taking further action in the case.
