Amritsar: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police, currently posted with the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Amritsar, was shot at by three unidentified motorcycle-borne men while he was returning home from duty. The incident has prompted BJP MP Ravneet Singh Bittu to condemn the attack and question the Bhagwant Mann government over the law and order situation in Punjab.
GRP ASI Sukhchain Singh Shot Near Ajnala Village
The injured police official, identified as ASI Sukhchain Singh, was travelling towards his home in Jagdev Khurd village under the jurisdiction of Ajnala police station when the attack took place.
According to police, the incident occurred near a canal bridge close to his village. Singh was travelling on his motorcycle when three unidentified men, who were also travelling on a motorcycle, opened fire at him from close range.
DSP Dharmendra Kalyan said that the bullet struck Singh’s left shoulder and passed through. He was subsequently admitted to a hospital for treatment.
An FIR has been registered in connection with the shooting, and police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused. The motive behind the attack has not yet been established.
BJP MP Ravneet Singh Bittu Questions Punjab Government
Reacting to the shooting, BJP MP Ravneet Singh Bittu condemned the attack and questioned the Punjab government over the safety of police personnel and ordinary citizens.
Bittu said that repeated incidents of shootings, killings, extortion and attacks on police personnel were raising concerns over the law and order situation in Punjab.
He questioned how ordinary citizens could feel secure when police personnel themselves were being targeted and alleged that the situation was contrary to the Punjab government’s claims of providing a safe and secure environment.
Bittu also referred to previous attacks on police personnel and demanded decisive action from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government.
The investigation into the Amritsar shooting is underway, while police are working to identify the three unidentified attackers and establish the motive behind the attack.
