In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a cross-border drug smuggling cartel, arrested six accused persons, and recovered 30.045 kg of heroin.
Dubai-Based Smuggler Linked To Network
According to preliminary investigations, the arrested accused were allegedly connected to a Dubai-based smuggler who was facilitating the supply of heroin consignments from across the border.
Police said the accused used to retrieve the consignments from designated locations on the instructions of the overseas handler and then distribute the drugs to various recipients across Punjab.
FIR Registered Under NDPS Act
An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Chheharta police station in Amritsar.
Officials said further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages, identify other associates involved in the network, trace the financial trail, and uncover possible hawala connections linked to the smuggling operation.
