AMRITSAR: Two people suffered minor injuries after unidentified assailants allegedly hurled a grenade at a residential house in Jattan village of Ajnala tehsil late Thursday night.
The injured were rushed to a hospital for treatment and were discharged after receiving medical attention, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Border Range, Harmanbir Singh Gill, said.
Attack Linked to Sarpanch Poll Rivalry, Say Police
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the attack may be connected to a family dispute involving the family of gangster Happy Passia over the village sarpanch election.
The assailants allegedly arrived in the village on a motorcycle, threw the explosive device at the targeted house and fled immediately after the attack. The blast created panic among local residents, following which police teams reached the spot and secured the area.
CCTV Footage of Two Suspects Under Examination
Investigators have obtained CCTV footage from the locality, which reportedly shows two persons travelling on a motorcycle around the time of the incident.
Police are examining the footage to identify the suspects and trace their movements and route before and after the attack.
Teams are also questioning members of the affected family and other residents to establish the sequence of events and verify whether the suspected dispute over the sarpanchi election was behind the attack.
Forensic Teams Examine Blast Site
Forensic experts have inspected the spot and are assisting the investigation by examining the evidence and determining the nature of the explosive device used.
DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill said the investigation is still at an early stage, with police pursuing multiple leads to identify and arrest those involved. Investigators are also probing whether the attack was linked to a personal dispute or a gangster-related rivalry.
