Nagoya: Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala finished seventh in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol individual final at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery on Thursday, bringing India’s shooting campaign at the 2026 Asian Games to a close with 15 medals.
Anish was tied with other shooters on 11 hits but was eliminated on the countback, with his lower qualification ranking placing him seventh.
India finished its shooting campaign with three gold, eight silver and four bronze medals.
Anish Bhanwala Qualifies for 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Final
Anish entered the 25m rapid fire pistol final despite finishing ninth in qualification with a score of 576-17x.
Three South Korean shooters finished among the top eight in qualification, but only two shooters from each National Olympic Committee (NOC) are allowed to compete in the final. This allowed Anish to take the eighth and final qualifying position.
He eventually finished seventh in the medal round.
Indian Pistol Shooters Win Two Medals
Indian pistol shooters secured two medals during the Aichi-Nagoya campaign. India won a silver medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event and a gold medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event.
The overall shooting tally of 15 medals included three gold, eight silver and four bronze medals.
India Assures Medal in Sepaktakraw
Meanwhile, India reached the men’s quadrant semifinals in sepaktakraw and assured itself of a medal after completing an unbeaten group-stage campaign.
India defeated Myanmar 2-1 in a thrilling comeback win. After losing the opening game 15-10, India fought back to win the next two games 15-13 and 15-7 to top Group A.
India had earlier recorded wins over the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Vietnam.
Shikha Chauhan Finishes Seventh in Canoe Slalom
In canoe slalom, India’s Shikha Chauhan finished seventh in the women’s kayak single final.
She clocked 193.31 to finish seventh among the eight finalists.
Inunganbi Takhellambam Loses Quarterfinal
India’s Inunganbi Takhellambam lost to North Korea’s Mun Song-hui by ippon in the women’s 70kg quarterfinal.
She advanced directly to the bronze-medal bout after her scheduled repechage opponent, China’s Jing Tang, was disqualified.
