The Punjab government on Monday promoted Bikramjit Singh Brar, a senior anti‑gangster specialist in the police force, to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP). The promotion comes in recognition of his long and distinguished service in combating organised crime, terror, and drug networks in the state.
Brar’s new appointment reflects the state’s continued focus on strengthening law enforcement leadership in the fight against gang violence and organized criminal syndicates that have plagued parts of Punjab.
A Decorated Career Fighting Crime
Brar has built a formidable reputation over the years as an anti‑gangster expert. He has braved bullets in multiple field encounters and played a key role in high‑profile operations targeting gang leaders and organized crime networks across Punjab and beyond.
Notably, he had faced off against notorious gangster Goldy Brar in a widely circulated leaked phone conversation that highlighted his frontline role in confronting criminal elements.
Before this promotion, Brar served as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) after joining service in 2018 due to his “outstanding work” on anti‑terror, anti‑gangster, and anti‑drug fronts, according to his official profile.
Family Legacy of Service
Brar belongs to a family with a strong tradition of police service. His father, Baldev Singh Brar, was also a Superintendent of Police and was martyred in 1988 during a terrorism incident in Patiala, underscoring the family’s long commitment to public safety.
His elder brother is also a senior officer in the Punjab Police, currently serving as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Vigilance, Ludhiana.
Key Contributions to Anti‑Crime Operations
Throughout his career, Brar has been instrumental in spearheading operations that have led to the neutralization and arrest of several infamous gangsters, smugglers, terrorists, and arms suppliers involved in organized crime not just in Punjab but in cooperation with agencies in other states and overseas.
Brar’s leadership in tactical operations and investigative actions has earned him multiple honours and medals for gallantry and policing excellence, including several recognitions at the national level.
In August 2024, he was awarded the President’s Medal for Gallantry for the fifth time, after leading operations resulting in the neutralization of dangerous criminals including those involved in the murder of state police personnel.
Focus on Organized Crime and Public Safety
Punjab has been intensifying its crackdown on organized crime, particularly targeting syndicates that operate across state and international borders. Officers like Brar play a crucial role in coordinating intelligence‑led operations that aim to dismantle criminal networks and reduce violence linked to gangs and drugs.
With his promotion to SP, Brar is expected to take on greater responsibilities, including leading major task forces and strategic deployments against organized crime elements. His experience in field operations and investigative expertise will be significant assets in Punjab’s security apparatus.
