A 29-year-old army soldier returning home on leave was allegedly beaten to death during a road rage incident in Mizoram’s Kolasib district. The incident occurred on National Highway 306 near Bualpui village on Sunday evening. Police have detained eight people, including two minors, in connection with the case.

The deceased has been identified as Zakaria Lalhariatluanga. He was posted in the Assam Regiment and was on leave in Jammu and Kashmir. He was returning to his native village, New Bilum.
According to police, Zakaria arrived at Lengpui Airport, where his friend, John Laltanpuia, came to pick him up. The two were traveling to Kolasib in a truck when they encountered a group of young men returning from a picnic.
Minor Traffic Dispute Turns Violent
According to police, a minor traffic dispute between the two parties escalated into a physical altercation.
Police say Zakaria was allegedly attacked near a coffee plantation along the highway. He died on the spot. His friend, who was driving the truck, also suffered minor injuries.
Eight people in custody, two minors
Based on a complaint from Zakaria’s mother, police registered a murder case and began an investigation. Police have detained eight people, including two minors.
According to police, six of the accused will be presented before a magistrate, while the two minors will be presented before a Juvenile Justice Board.
Police are investigating the entire incident and trying to determine how a minor road dispute escalated into a deadly attack.
