Relief for AAP Leadership: Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia cleared in Delhi Excise policy case

In a major relief and massive victory for AAP leadership, the Rouse Avenue Court has discharged Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in the Delhi Excise policy case. Earlier today, AAP national convener and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal arrived at the Rouse Avenue Court for a hearing in the Delhi Excise Policy case.

The Court ruled that the CBI failed to prove the charges against them.

The Rouse Avenue Court observed that there was no evidence against the two leaders, granting them a major reprieve.

The court emphasised the importance of a fair investigation to ensure a fair trial, noting that the prosecution had failed to substantiate its allegations. Regarding Sisodia, the court stated that the charges levelled by the CBI lacked merit, no criminal conspiracy could be established, and the prosecution was unable to prove its case.

Here’s what Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said?

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday welcomed the acquittal of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the Delhi excise policy case. Reacting to the court’s decision, Mann said that “truth always prevails,” asserting that the verdict has brought clarity and vindication after a prolonged legal and political battle.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Mann wrote in Hindi: “सच की हमेशा जीत होती है… माननीय अदालत के इस फैसले ने सच्चाई को सबके सामने ला दिया है। समय के साथ बाकी सभी मामलों की सच्चाई भी सामने आ जाएगी। इंकलाब ज़िंदाबाद।” His message underscored the party’s long-held stance that the allegations were unfounded and politically motivated.

Verdict reserved on Feb 12

The decision comes after the court reserved its verdict on February 12, following detailed arguments from the CBI and the defence.

Alongside Kejriwal and Sisodia, 21 other individuals were also accused in the case. At the time the matter arose, Kejriwal was serving as Delhi Chief Minister and Sisodia as his deputy.

CBI Chargesheet in 2022

The CBI had filed its first charge sheet in 2022 and subsequently submitted several supplementary charge sheets. The agency had alleged that approximately Rs 100 crore was paid by a “south lobby” to influence the now-cancelled excise policy in its favour.
