Bangladesh Accuses ICC of Unfair Scheduling After U19 Exit

Bangladesh Slams ICC Over U19 Scheduling

Bangladesh Slams ICC Over U19 Scheduling

Bangladesh’s cricket officials have criticized the International Cricket Council (ICC), calling the match schedule for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026 “unfair” after their team was knocked out of the tournament following a Super Six stage loss to England. Team officials highlighted heavy travel demands caused by sudden schedule changes as a key issue.

Scheduling Concerns and Travel Burden

According to Bangladesh’s team development coordinator Habibul Bashar, the U19 squad faced a taxing travel itinerary that they believe disadvantaged them compared with other teams. He pointed to last-minute schedule revisions which forced additional long transfers between venues during the tournament, something Bangladesh says it had raised concerns about even before the event began.

The criticism stems not just from competitive performance but from what Bangladesh officials view as an imbalanced match layout, with back-and-forth movement between locations believed to impact recovery and performance.

Early Exit and Impact

Bangladesh’s Under-19 side failed to progress past the Super Six stage after their defeat by England U19, ending their World Cup campaign earlier than expected. While performance in key matches remains the primary reason for their elimination, the scheduling debate now adds another dimension to Bangladesh’s post-tournament analysis.

ICC’s Position on Scheduling Decisions

The ICC has not publicly changed its stance in response to these criticisms, but similar discussions about scheduling fairness have emerged in other contexts of recent tournaments, including Bangladesh’s disputes over T20 World Cup venue and travel arrangements for senior cricket. These issues have highlighted broader tensions over how global events are planned and how teams impacted by politics and logistics engage with the ICC framework.
