Gurugram: The Gurugram Police have arrested a Bangladeshi national for sending hoax emails threatening to bomb schools in the city.
The accused, who had been living in India for the past nine years using fake documents, was apprehended in Gujarat and brought to Gurugram for further investigation.
Accused Identified as Saurabh Biswas, Alias Michael
The accused has been identified as Saurabh Biswas, also known as Michael, 30, a native of Bangladesh. He has studied up to the 12th grade and was residing in Sripalli Bazar, Govindpalli District, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. On January 28, he allegedly sent emails threatening bombs at several schools in Gurugram.
Living in India Using Forged Documents
During police interrogation, it was revealed that Biswas had been living in India using fraudulent documents. Initially, he worked as a laborer at Maruti Suzuki but later became skilled in digital marketing and graphics. He has been freelancing in digital marketing for the past five years.
Hoax Emails Sent to Hundreds of Gmail IDs
The accused was part of a Facebook group where he connected with a Bangladeshi man named Mamunur Rashid. Biswas obtained Rashid’s Gmail ID and offered him approximately 300 Gmail IDs in exchange for 250 USDT in cryptocurrency. Using one of these Gmail accounts, he sent false emails threatening bombs at schools, creating panic among students and school authorities.
Threats Targeted Multiple States
ACP Cyber Crime Priyanshu Dewan stated that the hoax emails were intended to instill fear in schools. Following complaints from school officials, a case was registered at the Cyber Crime South Police Station. Similar threats were reportedly made not only to schools in Gurugram but also in other states, including Haryana.
Arrested from Ahmedabad, Brought to Gurugram
The accused was arrested in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and brought to Gurugram on Monday. He continues to work as a digital marketing freelancer. Detailed questioning is yet to take place, which may uncover further incidents connected to him. His previous criminal history is still under investigation.
