A major road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district has left four friends dead and three others critically injured. The victims were travelling in an Innova car when it collided with a trailer at high speed on the highway while they were heading towards Kanchi Dham for a religious visit.
According to initial information, the accident took place late at night when the vehicle lost control and rammed into a trailer moving ahead on the expressway. The impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled, leaving passengers trapped inside.
Victims were on religious trip
Police sources and local reports indicate that all seven friends were travelling together from different districts and were en route to Kanchi Dham. The group was reportedly excited about the journey when the tragic accident occurred midway, cutting their trip short in a devastating way.
Eyewitnesses said the collision created a loud impact sound, after which nearby commuters rushed to the spot and informed emergency services. The injured were pulled out with great difficulty from the badly damaged vehicle.
Rescue operation and hospital shift
Soon after the accident, police teams and ambulance services reached the location. The injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared four of them dead on arrival. The remaining three are undergoing treatment in critical condition and are being closely monitored by medical teams.
Authorities have not yet officially released the identities of the victims, but efforts are underway to inform their families.
Police investigation begins
Police have taken the trailer involved in the accident into custody and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding and possible negligence as key reasons behind the crash. Officials are also checking CCTV footage and vehicle condition to determine the exact cause.
Traffic movement on the highway was briefly affected due to rescue operations but was later restored.
Rising concern over road safety
This incident once again highlights growing concerns over high-speed driving and road safety on Uttar Pradesh highways. Authorities have urged motorists to follow speed limits, especially during night travel, to avoid such tragic accidents.
The investigation into the Barabanki crash is still ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge soon.
