Chandigarh: Panjab University (PU) professor B.B. Goyal will appear in court again today. He is accused of murdering his wife, Seema Goyal and destroying evidence. The professor, who had been misleading the police for four years, was finally exposed in the polygraph and BEOS (Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature) test, following which he was arrested. The accused is currently on a three-day police remand, and the police are investigating the real motive for his murder.
Bloody end to 26-year marriage
According to the police, Professor Bharat Bhushan Goyal married Seema Goyal in 1995. The couple used to fight frequently after their marriage. They have a daughter who was suffering from family tension.
On the night of November 4, 2021, the day after Diwali, the argument escalated to the point where the professor tied his wife’s hands and feet, strangled her, and then set her on fire.
Attempt to mislead the police by filing a robbery case
After the murder, Goyal told the police that he had gone to the terrace after dinner, and the “robbers” had entered the house, tied his wife, and burned her.
The accused cut the kitchen grill from the inside, scattered household goods, overturned a large box, and locked the house from the outside, creating a robbery-like atmosphere. After the murder, instead of calling the police, he called the neighbors, raised the alarm, and took his wife to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Suspicious signs: Police noticed a difference
The investigation revealed several facts that continued to arouse suspicion among the police:
No one around saw anyone entering or leaving the house.
The accused claimed that “the robbers took the keys,” while the daughter said that there was no duplicate key to the house.
The contents of the cupboard were scattered, but nothing was stolen.
Forensic examination proved that the grill was cut from the inside, and no fingerprints were found from the outside.
Over a period of more than four years, the police questioned the accused 15-20 times, but he evaded the questions every time.
Forensic examination revealed the truth: first the murder, then the body was burned
The forensic report clearly stated that Seema Goyal had died before she was burned. There were no signs of struggle on her body. This made it clear that the fire was simply an attempt to destroy evidence.
A digital examination of the Fitbit devices also revealed irregularities – many devices were repeatedly logged in and out from the same mobile phone, which contradicts the “robbery” narrative.
The BEOS test became the turning point in the case.
The BEOS test – which measures a person’s “memory” of an event – revealed strong evidence against the accused. It contained all the details related to the murder that the accused was denying. This report turned out to be the most important piece of evidence in the hands of the police.
What next? The police are collecting solid evidence.
The police are now preparing a detailed chargesheet, which will include forensic reports, mobile location data, digital data, polygraph and BEOS analysis.
The accused continues to give evasive answers, but the police claim that the evidence against him is so strong that a conviction in court is certain.
