Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, alleging that the party is consumed by internal infighting and has little concern for the welfare of Punjab.
CM Mann claimed Congress leaders were more interested in power struggles than public service.
‘Congress Busy Fighting for Chairs’
“Good luck to the Congress for its ongoing fight. They keep fighting for positions and chairs. Earlier too, they had a rate list where the Chief Minister’s post was allegedly worth Rs 500 crore, while other ministerial posts were assigned different amounts,” Mann said.
He further alleged that the Congress was producing “dealers instead of leaders.”
Referring to recent developments within the Punjab Congress, Mann said the party was witnessing internal conflicts in Sangrur, Barnala and Mansa, while leaders continued to blame the AAP for their problems.
“Bhupesh Baghel was appointed by their own party, but today they are not even accepting him. Posters saying ‘Go Back, Baghel’ were put up. The Congress is busy with its infighting and does not care about Punjab. We are here to work for Punjab,” he added.
Rejects Paper Leak Allegations
The Chief Minister also dismissed allegations of a paper leak in Punjab, accusing the BJP of trying to tarnish the image of his government.
“No paper leak has happened in Punjab. The BJP is still unable to recover from what happened earlier. They did not expect Gen Z to protest on such a large scale, and Arvind Kejriwal supported them. Sonam Wangchuk was also there. Now they are targeting the Punjab government and trying to defame us,” Mann said.
He clarified that the issue involved digital cheating and that action had already been taken against those responsible.
Congress Rift Deepens Ahead of Elections
When asked about the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, Mann replied, “Let’s see who all will lose.”
His remarks come amid growing factionalism within the Punjab Congress. The rift widened after former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi visited suspended former MLA Madan Lal Jalalpur, a move widely seen as a political message to Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.
Earlier, supporters of Channi also raised slogans in his favour during a Congress meeting in Barnala attended by party in-charge Bhupesh Baghel and Raja Warring, highlighting the ongoing divisions within the state unit.
