Jalandhar: Discussion of a possible alliance between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP in Punjab has intensified again after SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and BJP working president Ashwani Sharma participated in the Governor’s drug de-addiction march in Faridkot. Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon (Dera Beas) was also present.
Meanwhile, Bikram Singh Majithia arrived at Beas and met with the Dera chief. The meeting began around 5 p.m. Opposition parties criticized the event, saying the presence of SAD and BJP leaders on the same platform sends a wrong message amid the drug problem in Punjab.
Majithia shares past and future vision
After leaving Chandigarh, journalists questioned Majithia about the possibility of a SAD-BJP alliance. Majithia said:
“As far as it can’t be revealed on the streets, nothing should be hidden from you. When the time comes, it will happen.”
He said that given Punjab’s current challenges—law and order, agriculture, and Delhi’s interference—it is important to put protests aside. Majithia cited historical examples, pointing out that coalition governments were formed in 1997, 2007, and 2012, and recalled the two parties’ previous successful collaborations.
He also said that many people want an alliance, but the final decision will depend on the senior leadership of both parties.
Majithia’s Release and Meeting with Dera Beas
Majithia was granted bail on February 3, 2026, after being accused of disproportionate assets by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in June 2025. His bail was granted after meeting with Dera Beas chief Gurvinder Singh Dhillon, who dismissed the allegations as “false and baseless” and confirmed his friendship with Majithia.
Majithia walked out of Nabha Jail at around 2 p.m. The Mohali court granted him bail on a ₹2 lakh security bond. Speaking to the media, he expressed a positive attitude toward the SAD-BJP alliance and reiterated that the final decision rests with the leadership of both parties.
