The Bharatiya Janata Party is going to hold a major meeting in Shimla today (April 28) in Himachal Pradesh. There will be discussions regarding the names of candidates for the councilor posts in 64 wards across four municipal corporations (Solan, Mandi, Dharamshala, and Palampur), and some tickets may be announced today. For this meeting, the party in-charge, Shrikanth Sharma, had already arrived in Shimla on Monday evening.
The four municipal corporation elections in the state are being considered a semi-final of power before the assembly elections in December 2027, as municipal corporation elections take place under the party symbol. Therefore, both the BJP and the ruling Congress will put a lot of effort into these elections.
BJP will formulate a strategy to corner Congress
In today’s meeting, BJP will not only decide on tickets but will also formulate a strategy to corner the ruling Congress. BJP’s chief spokesperson Trilok Jamwal said that the party will field winning candidates, and the saffron will wave over all four municipal corporations.
Panel of three candidates per ticket
Voting for a total of 64 wards in the state’s 4 municipal corporations is scheduled for May 17. According to sources, the BJP has prepared a panel of three candidates for each ward. These will be deliberated today in Shimla, and the tickets will be finalized. It is likely that tickets for most wards will be decided today itself, as the nomination process is set to begin from tomorrow.
Review of election preparations will also take place
In today’s meeting, there will be a detailed discussion on election preparations, organizational strength, the activity of workers at the booth level, and the framework of public outreach campaigns. For winning these elections, the BJP has constituted an election committee.
Pawan, Sudhir, and Sachin entrusted with Dharamshala Municipal Corporation elections
For the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation elections, BJP has assigned responsibilities to MLA Pawan Kajal, Sudhir Sharma, and Sachin Sharma. For the Palampur Municipal Corporation, Vipin Parmar, Rajesh Thakur, Trilok Kapoor, and Ragini have been appointed. For the Mandi Municipal Corporation, Payal Vaidya, Anil Sharma, Indra Singh Gandhi, and Nihal Chand Sharma have been given responsibility.
Meanwhile, for the Solan Municipal Corporation, Sanjeev Katwal, Balveer Verma, Rashmidhar Sood, Vandana Yogi, Ratan Singh Pal, Dr. Rajesh Kashyap, and Shailendra Gupta have been entrusted with duties.
