The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttarakhand has prepared a special “Kirtan-Navratri outreach plan” aimed at strengthening its connection with women across the state. The initiative will be implemented by the party’s Mahila Morcha and will involve organizing religious and cultural events at the mandal (local organizational) level.
Party leaders believe that such events will help them directly interact with women voters and spread awareness about government schemes and achievements. The programme is part of the party’s broader strategy to consolidate support among women ahead of future electoral contests in the state.
Events to Be Organised at Mandal Level
Under the plan, BJP’s women wing will organize kirtan gatherings, Navratri celebrations, and other cultural programmes across different regions of Uttarakhand. These activities will be conducted not only at the district level but also at the mandal level, allowing the party to reach grassroots communities.
The events will include devotional singing, community gatherings and interaction sessions with local women. During these programmes, party representatives will also inform participants about welfare schemes and initiatives introduced by the government for women’s development and empowerment.
Focus on Women Voters Ahead of Elections
The BJP leadership is placing significant emphasis on women voters as an important segment of the electorate. According to available electoral data, the state has over 4 million women voters, forming a substantial share of the total voter base.
Party leaders believe that women played a key role in helping the BJP secure victory in the 2022 Uttarakhand Assembly elections, and the party now aims to maintain and strengthen that support in the future.
The outreach programme is therefore designed to build stronger connections with women at the grassroots level while reinforcing the party’s political presence in local communities.
Role of BJP Mahila Morcha
The responsibility for implementing the Kirtan-Navratri plan has been assigned to the Mahila Morcha, the women’s wing of the BJP. Local leaders and workers of the organization will coordinate the events and ensure participation from women across villages and towns.
Apart from devotional activities, the programmes will also include discussions about women-centric policies, social welfare schemes and government initiatives aimed at improving women’s safety, health and economic opportunities.
Cultural Festivals as Political Outreach
In addition to Navratri celebrations, the BJP is also planning to celebrate festivals such as Hariyali Teej and other cultural occasions with women in different parts of the state. These festivals are widely observed among women and provide opportunities for large community gatherings.
By linking political outreach with cultural and religious activities, the party hopes to create an environment where women can engage with political representatives while participating in traditional celebrations.
Gender Budget Increase Highlighted
The party leadership has also highlighted the government’s focus on women’s welfare through increased funding in the state budget. According to party leaders, the gender budget allocation in Uttarakhand has been significantly increased, with provisions rising to over ₹19,600 crore, reflecting the government’s commitment to women’s development and empowerment.
BJP leaders say that the outreach events will also be used to inform women about these policies and encourage their participation in government programmes.
Strengthening Grassroots Political Network
Political observers believe that such outreach programmes are part of a broader strategy to strengthen the party’s organizational network at the grassroots level. By organizing events at the mandal level, the BJP aims to ensure that its workers maintain regular contact with voters across the state.
