Jalandhar, Punjab: The final rites of Jalandhar-based vegetarian bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghumman will be held today in on Friday.
Ghumman passed away on Thursday at Fortis Hospital, Amritsar, after suffering two heart attacks during a surgical procedure.
Friends raise allegations of negligence
Friends of Ghumman alleged that his body had turned blue and accused the hospital administration of negligence. A heated argument reportedly took place between the friends and hospital doctors over the circumstances of his death.
Dr. Aniket, one of the doctors involved, stated that all medications administered during and after the surgery were properly recorded in the hospital files.
CCTV footage controversy
When friends requested CCTV footage of the operation, the hospital informed them that there were no cameras inside the operation theater. Only external footage was available, in which Ghumman’s bed was not visible.
As tensions escalated, the hospital administration took the friends to the CCTV room to provide available information. Medical Superintendent Dr. Romi assured that a detailed medical bulletin would be issued soon and cautioned against drawing premature conclusions.
No police case filed yet
As of now, neither the family nor the police have registered any formal complaint regarding the incident. Authorities continue to review hospital records and procedures to clarify the circumstances surrounding Ghumman’s death.
MLA Pargat Singh condoles Ghumman’s death, calls it a loss for Punjab
Congress MLA Pargat Singh from Jalandhar Cantt expressed his grief over the passing of bodybuilder Varinder Ghumman. “Varinder Ghumman was an excellent young man and a committed vegetarian. His death is a great loss. He was even building a house in my village. Punjab has lost a true role model, and his absence can never be filled,” said Singh.
Varinder Ghumman, aged around 43, was born on 28 December 1982 in Talwandi, Gurdaspur. He moved to Jalandhar for Rs 2 lakh and later pursued an MBA from Lyallpur Khalsa College.
He was a prominent Indian professional bodybuilder, actor, and dairy farmer. He is regarded as the world’s first pure vegetarian professional bodybuilder and has been an inspiration in India’s bodybuilding community.
He was a professional bodybuilder and actor. He appeared alongside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in Tiger 3 and had also won the title of Mr. India.
