Patiala: During the anti-corruption drive in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested Inspector Gurinder Singh, the Incharge of the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in District Patiala, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh.

A spokesperson for the Vigilance Bureau reported that the arrest was made based on a complaint filed by Pooja, a resident of village Rohti Pul in Tehsil Nabha, District Patiala.

The complainant alleged that the Inspector was threatening her father, claiming that he would implicate him in a false NDPS case if he did not pay a bribe of Rs. 3 lakh.

The negotiation eventually settled at Rs. 1.50 lakh, with the Inspector having already taken Rs. 50,000 as the first instalment on Sunday.

The spokesperson added that after a preliminary investigation into the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team set up a sting operation and caught the police officer red-handed while accepting the Rs. 1 lakh bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case has been registered against the accused under the Anti-Corruption Act at the Patiala Range Police Station of the Vigilance Bureau. The accused will be presented in court tomorrow, and further actions in this case are underway.
