New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inaugurated a modern Automated Testing Station (ATS) in north Delhi’s Burari, describing it as another step towards pollution control and improved road safety. The facility has the capacity to conduct fitness tests for up to 90,000 vehicles annually.
In a message on X, Gupta said the facility was inaugurated under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. She noted that Delhi received its second Automated Testing Station within 23 days, following the inauguration of an ATS at Tehkhand on September 3.

Gupta said proper vehicle fitness checks, accurate testing and improved monitoring would strengthen road safety and support efforts to control pollution.
Burari ATS to Modernise Vehicle Fitness Testing
The Burari facility is part of Delhi’s efforts to expand automated vehicle fitness testing. Earlier in June, the Chief Minister had inspected the under-construction ATS at Burari and officials said the facility was being developed to test around 80,000–90,000 commercial vehicles annually.
Automated Testing Stations use mechanical equipment to carry out vehicle fitness tests, including checks related to safety and emissions, with the aim of making the process more systematic and reducing manual intervention.
MP Manoj Tiwari, Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and other guests were present at the inauguration, according to the Chief Minister’s statement.
Transport Minister Reviews Contract Bus Drivers’ Concerns
Earlier, amid an ongoing strike by a section of DTC’s contract bus drivers, Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh met representatives of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and operators on Friday.
The meeting reviewed issues concerning contractual drivers operating buses under the Cluster Scheme through concessionaires. Discussions focused on addressing the drivers’ concerns while maintaining the smooth functioning of public transport services in Delhi.
The Minister emphasised the need for appropriate welfare measures for contractual drivers while ensuring adequate manpower and operational requirements.
Health Insurance, Salary and Rest Provisions Discussed
The issues discussed included health insurance coverage for drivers and their families, accident insurance and compensation, timely issuance of salary slips and joining or appointment letters, performance-linked variable incentives, weekly and monthly rest provisions, and grievance resolution.
“The welfare of contractual drivers and the continuity of public transport services are both important. We have discussed the principal issues raised by the drivers and the measures proposed for their resolution,” Singh said.
He added that concerned stakeholders had been asked to examine the feasibility of the proposed measures in accordance with applicable laws, agreements and operational requirements, while ensuring that bus services remain uninterrupted.
