Chandigarh, August 14: Due to continuous rain in Chandigarh for the past few days, the water level of Sukhna Lake is rising to dangerous levels. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, the administration has issued an alert in the areas around the lake. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in the city even on Independence Day.
According to the information, in view of the rising water level in the lake, the administration has had to open the flood gates three times. It is believed that if the rain continues like this, the floodgates may have to be opened again. Recently, when the water level increased, the flood gates were opened at night to drain out the excess water. The floodgates could be closed only after the water level reached 1162.20 feet.
The Meteorological Department has issued the following forecast for the next three days…
•August 14: The sky will remain cloudy throughout the day, and light to moderate rain is likely.
•August 15: The rain will continue on the occasion of Independence Day. There is also a possibility of strong winds.
•August 16: Although there may be some relief on this day, and the amount of rain may decrease, but the sky will remain cloudy.
