Chennai: Commercial and heavy vehicles will face traffic diversions at several key junctions across Chennai until 4:30 pm on Sunday in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police said.
The traffic arrangements have been introduced to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and maintain public safety during the Prime Minister’s visit. Motorists, transport operators and commercial vehicle drivers have been advised to check the designated diversion routes and plan their journeys accordingly.
Chennai Traffic Diversion Routes for Heavy Vehicles
According to the traffic advisory, vehicles approaching from Tambaram will be diverted at Tiruneermalai Junction towards Kundrathur Road. Those coming from Pallavaram will be redirected at International Airport Junction towards Tambaram.
Commercial and heavy vehicles travelling on Jawaharlal Nehru 100 Feet Road towards Kathipara Bridge will be diverted at Ashok Nagar Second Avenue. They will be directed towards Koyambedu or KK Nagar.
Vehicles approaching from Ashok Pillar will be redirected at CIPET Junction towards Guindy Industrial Estate.
On Mount Poonamallee Road, vehicles heading towards Kathipara Bridge will face diversions at two locations. At Porur Toll Plaza, traffic will be directed towards Maduravoyal, while vehicles reaching Ramapuram Junction will be routed towards Arasamaram Junction.
Diversions on OMR, Sardar Patel Road and Anna Salai
Vehicles approaching from Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) and Sardar Patel Road will be diverted at Gandhimandapam Junction towards CPT. The same arrangement will apply to vehicles travelling along Gandhimandapam Salai.
Commercial and heavy vehicles moving from Velachery Main Road towards Sardar Patel Road will be redirected at Guru Nanak Junction towards Velachery.
On Anna Salai, vehicles will be diverted at the MC Raja U-turn towards Anna Salai and allowed to proceed to their respective destinations, according to the advisory.
Traffic Police Urge Motorists to Plan Ahead
The Greater Chennai Traffic Police has urged the public, motorists and transport operators to cooperate with personnel deployed at key junctions and follow the prescribed routes throughout the diversion period.
Commercial and heavy vehicle operators have been advised to account for the restrictions when planning journeys through the affected areas. Following the designated routes and traffic police instructions will help minimise delays and ensure orderly movement during the Prime Minister’s visit.
The announced restrictions apply to commercial and heavy vehicles until 4:30 pm on Sunday, October 11.
