Chandigarh, Aug 31: Holding the airline company and the e-commerce website guilty of unfair trade practices, the Chandigarh Consumer Court has ordered them to pay 20 thousand rupees as compensation and 10 thousand rupees as litigation expenses. Also, both have been asked to return the 76 thousand 860 rupees taken for the ticket along with 9% annual interest. This decision has been given in the case of a flight cancelled a day before going to Goa.
Nitin Goyal, a resident of Kansal village in Mohali, had filed a complaint in the Chandigarh Consumer Court. He said that he had planned to visit Goa with his family and for this he had booked Go-Air airline tickets from the e-commerce website Clear Trip. Rs 60,860 was paid for the ticket. But a day before the flight departure, the airline cancelled the flight without giving any reason.
The complainant said that since the hotel and tour package was already booked, he was forced to buy tickets from another airline. Despite this, since he could not get a return flight, he had to stay in the hotel for one more day, which resulted in an additional expense of Rs 16,000.
Can’t escape responsibility
In this case, when the commission sought answers from the airline and the e-commerce company, both were seen blaming each other. The commission considered this attitude as negligence and said that the defendants cannot escape their responsibility for the inconvenience caused to the passengers. Therefore, both were held guilty and ordered to pay compensation and fine.
