All educational institutions in Manipur's Imphal Valley to remain closed till Nov 23

Imphal: Schools, colleges, and universities in Manipur’s Imphal Valley will remain closed until November 23 due to safety concerns for students, teachers, and staff. The directive was issued by Daryal Juli Anal, Joint Secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department, in response to curfews imposed by District Magistrates in several districts.

The decision follows violent unrest that erupted on November 16 after the discovery of six bodies—three missing children and three women—in Jiribam district. In light of the situation and to ensure the safety of all involved, the government has closed educational institutions in the five valley districts affected by the curfew: Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching.

Despite these closures, officials announced that the curfew would be relaxed in four of the valley districts for five hours on Thursday to allow residents to purchase essential goods and attend to urgent matters. The curfew was lifted from 5 to 10 a.m. in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, and Kakching without any major incidents reported.

Additionally, Commissioner (Home) N. Ashok Kumar announced the extension of mobile internet and data service suspensions for three more days in the seven affected districts, starting Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. and lasting until Saturday at 5:15 p.m. The seven districts include Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur.
