Mumbai: Coolie continued its slow burn at the Indian box office on Tuesday, adding about Rs 10 crore to bring its domestic total to roughly Rs 248 crore. Internationally, the film has earned around USD 17.5 million (about Rs 153 crore), pushing the worldwide tally past Rs 400 crore, though overseas business has cooled on weekdays.
The drop from Monday to Tuesday stood at about 25%, aided slightly by a 20% Hindi version uptick due to a discount day. In South India, the fall was steeper, close to 30%. With audiences drifting to lower levels, industry watchers say the film will need stabilization to maintain momentum. The first-week target remains around Rs 260-263 crore, but crossing the Rs 300 crore mark in its full run now appears uncertain.
Coolie debuted with blockbuster numbers, delivering a record-breaking extended weekend. However, production costs were equally hefty, and expectations were high given Lokesh’s recent success. By the weekend, it became clear those lofty projections wouldn’t be fully realized, though the film still looked poised to land as a major hit. That said, the HIT status is now in doubt, even though the gross totals remain in the same approximate range.
