Tarn Taran (Punjab): The Vigilance Bureau team has arrested Harmandeep Singh, the Personal Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner of Tarn Taran District, and Jagroop Singh, a Data Entry Operator from the Election Department.
They were apprehended for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to facilitate the installation of cameras during the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab’s Tarn Taran. A case has been filed against both individuals, and an investigation is currently underway. According to a spokesperson from the Vigilance Bureau, a resident of Tarn Taran reported the incident.
The resident, who does photography work, said that Harmandeep Singh and Jagroop Singh demanded the bribe in exchange for allowing the installation of video cameras during the elections. The resident initially paid Rs. 20,000 in advance, with the remaining Rs. 20,000 scheduled to be paid on Wednesday
. The Vigilance team arrested both suspects while they were receiving the Rs. 20,000 payment on Wednesday. The spokesperson added that the accused were planning to collect an additional Rs. 10,000 from the complainant after the initial payment. Both individuals have been charged under the Anti-Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station in Amritsar. They were presented in court on Thursday, and an investigation into their movable and immovable assets is ongoing.
