Ludhiana:
Three days after a 12-year-old girl, who gave birth to baby boy, died, the city police, on Saturday, arrested a Bihar resident under charges of kidnapping, rape as well as culpable homicide.
According to the police, the victim girl had ran away with the accused in September 2023 and now on August 30, when the accused along with the victim girl was travelling to Ludhiana on train, the victim suffered the labour pain in the mid-way following which she was rushed to Civil Hospital in Sonipat where she gave birth to baby boy.
After getting discharged the next day, the accused along with the victim girl and their newly born child reached Ludhiana at the residence of his sister where on September 4, the 12-year-old girl died.
Now, after the family members of the girl have lodged the complaint with the police, the Sadar police have registered an FIR under sections 363A (kidnapping or maiming a minor for purpose of begging), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage), 376 (Rape), 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC and sections of POCSO Act against the accused and arrested him on Saturday.
The family members of the victim girl claimed that the accused had murdered their daughter but according to the police, the preliminary probe does not indicate it to be a murder case.
Inspector Harshveer Singh, SHO at Sadar police station said that the initial probe found that as the minor girl gave birth to a baby at a very young age, her health condition started deteriorating. She was not taken care of well which led to her death. The minor girl’s autopsy was conducted however the doctors are awaiting the viscera report and chemical examination report to ascertain the cause of death.
