3 arrested over rape-murder of Dalit woman in Ayodhya

Ayodhya: Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a Dalit girl in Ayodhya, according to police reports.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi strongly condemned the incident, labeling the murder as brutal and accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh of being “anti-Bahujan.” He expressed concern over the increasing “heinous atrocities” in the state and criticized the administration for ignoring the victim’s family’s pleas for help. In a post on X, he remarked, “The inhumanity and brutal murder of a Dalit daughter in Ayodhya is both heartbreaking and shameful. If the administration had listened to the family’s cries for help over the last three days, perhaps her life could have been saved.” He also questioned how many more families would need to endure such suffering, underlining the rising violence and injustice against Dalits in Uttar Pradesh.

Gandhi urged authorities to treat the victim’s family with respect and avoid the harassment they have faced in similar situations in the past. He demanded a thorough investigation and the harshest punishment for the perpetrators, as well as accountability for the policemen involved.

At a press conference, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad became emotionally overwhelmed, expressing his shock and sadness over the discovery of the victim’s unclothed body in a village in Uttar Pradesh. He condemned the state government, describing the crime as “extremely sad and inhuman,” and threatened to resign from the Lok Sabha if justice is not delivered.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi also criticized the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government, asserting that in the “BJP’s Jungle Raj,” the cries of Dalits, tribals, backwards, and the poor go unheard. She highlighted the tragedy of a Dalit girl who had gone to attend a Bhagwat Katha event in Ayodhya and remarked on the terrifying nature of the crime. She accused the police of inaction while the girl was missing for three days and demanded stringent action against those responsible for the crime and police negligence.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Maurya, a member of the UP Women Commission, met with the victim’s family, promising them that justice would be pursued. After her visit, she stated, “It is a very sad incident. I came here to meet the family members of the victim. I assured them that justice will be served. Those responsible for this act must understand that the Yogi government is here, and the family will receive justice.”
