Karnal: A cyclist was crushed by a truck in a road accident on the Nadana-Tarawadi road, resulting in his death on the spot. The accident occurred due to steel reinforcement bars (rebar) lying on the road. While the man was attempting to steer his bicycle clear of the bars, he lost his balance and fell onto the road.
Victim Identified as Rice Mill Worker from Kachhwa Village
The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Rinka, a resident of Ray Farm in Kachhwa village. He worked at a rice mill and was unmarried. Late on Saturday night, he was traveling from Tarawadi towards Nadana on his bicycle. On the Nadana-Tarawadi road, his bicycle suddenly lost its balance due to the steel bars lying on the road and he fell onto the roadway.
The deceased, Rinka, was riding this bicycle. He worked at a rice mill.
Truck Runs Over Cyclist; Driver Flees After Accident
According to passersby, the moment Rinka fell onto the road, a truck approaching from the direction of Tarawadi ran him over. Immediately after the accident occurred, locals gathered at the scene. Upon seeing the crowd assembling, the truck driver abandoned his vehicle at the spot and fled.
The cyclist Rinka lost his balance due to these steel bars lying on the road.
Construction Work Blamed for Road Hazard
A passerby named Sinder Singh stated that construction work for shops is currently underway along the roadside. The steel bars had been placed directly on the road to facilitate their cutting, leading to the fatal accident. Family members revealed that Rinka was the eldest son, and his younger brother had also died in a road accident two years ago, leaving the family in deep distress.
Police Seize Truck, Register Case and Begin Probe
Upon receiving information about the incident late at night, the police immediately rushed to the scene. Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder Singh stated that they had received a report regarding an accident near Gamri village. The police have seized the truck from the site. The body was taken into custody and sent to the mortuary in Karnal for post-mortem. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family members, and a case has been registered with a search underway for the accused driver.
