Haridwar: Teachers and non-teaching staff in Uttarakhand will boycott work on February 23 and 24 in protest of the attack on Director of Primary Education Ajay Kumar Naudiyal in Dehradun. This decision was taken at a joint meeting held at the Education Directorate in Nanurkheda. Although teachers will mark their attendance in their respective offices, they will not work.
Demand for SOP for security
It was decided in the meeting that the demand for issuing a Special Operating Procedure (SOP) for the safety of employees will be raised in the meeting to be chaired by Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. For now, a decision has been taken not to boycott the Uttarakhand Board examinations.
Larger protest from the 25th if arrests are not made
The meeting, led by State President of the Government Teachers’ Union Ram Singh Chauhan and General Secretary Ramesh Painuli, strongly condemned the attack. It was warned that if the MLA and other accused are not arrested soon, an indefinite work boycott will begin in all offices from February 25th. Various teachers’ organizations have called for a gathering at the Directorate of Education on Monday.
Warning of protest by wearing black bands
The All India Junior High School Teachers’ Association and the Uttaranchal State Primary Teachers’ Association also condemned the incident. The organizations said that if strict action is not taken against the accused, teachers will protest by wearing black bands. The teachers called it a direct attack on the personal safety and administrative dignity of the officer.
