Mumbai: The Indian music industry has been stirred by a fresh controversy after music duo Sachet–Parampara accused composer Amaal Mallik of spreading misleading claims regarding the origin of their chartbuster Bekhayali from the Shahid Kapoor–starrer Kabir Singh.
The allegations surfaced after the couple posted a lengthy video on Instagram calling out Mallik for allegedly claiming that the tune of Bekhayali resembled one of his earlier compositions. The post was captioned:
“Warning. This video could have been a 10-second proof to shut down all rumours, but exposing some people became important for our mental peace. @amaal_mallik SHAME ON YOU AMAAL MALIK.”
“Bekhayali Was Entirely Our Original Creation”: The Duo Clarifies
In the video, Sachet and Parampara asserted that Bekhayali was entirely their original work, developed during multiple brainstorming sessions with Shahid Kapoor and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
They claimed to possess complete chat logs with Amaal Mallik and the Kabir Singh team to prove the composition, arrangement, and lyrics were created collaboratively during the film’s music development phase.
The duo emphasized that before Kabir Singh, they had no established connections with T-Series, whereas Amaal had been associated with the label since 2015—challenging any narrative of industry bias or favouritism.
Responding to Amaal’s alleged claim that he might have sent a similar tune over WhatsApp, they questioned:
“Why would anyone favour us when we were complete outsiders?”
Screenshots, Contradictions and a Demand for Apology
To support their stance, Sachet–Parampara shared purported screenshots in which Mallik congratulated them after the song’s release and said he had been “waiting” for the track.
They claimed Amaal had reached out to them first, not vice-versa, contradicting his later statements.
The duo accused him of misleading the public and projecting the industry as hostile toward him. They urged Mallik to take accountability:
“Success comes from consistent hard work, not insider–outsider politics.”
The video concluded with the duo demanding a public apology and warning of potential legal action if the situation escalated further.
Internet Split: Fans and Musicians Take Sides
The controversy has sparked intense debate online, with fans, musicians, and creators weighing in across platforms.
Many expressed support for Sachet–Parampara, praising them for speaking openly.
No Official Response Yet
As of now, Amaal Mallik has not issued a formal public response to the video, though fans expect a statement soon as the matter continues to gain traction.
