Deepinder Goyal to step down as Eternal CEO; Blinkit’s Albinder Dhindsa named successor

Mumbai: Zomato’s parent company Eternal Limited on Wednesday announced a major leadership transition, with founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal set to step down from his role effective February 1, 2026. Albinder Dhindsa, currently the CEO of quick-commerce platform Blinkit, will assume charge as the new chief executive.

In a letter addressed to shareholders, Goyal said he has increasingly felt drawn towards pursuing new ideas that involve higher levels of risk, experimentation and exploration—ventures that, he believes, are better undertaken outside a publicly listed company.

“Of late, I have found myself drawn to a set of new ideas that involve significantly higher-risk exploration and experimentation,” Goyal wrote. “These are the kinds of ideas that are better pursued outside a public company like Eternal, which needs to stay focused and disciplined in its current business strategy.”

He added that if these ideas were aligned with Eternal’s strategic scope, he would have pursued them within the organisation.

Blinkit CEO to Lead Eternal

Albinder Dhindsa’s appointment comes at a time when Blinkit has emerged as a key growth driver for Eternal, particularly in the fast-expanding quick-commerce segment. His elevation signals continuity in leadership while reinforcing the company’s focus on execution and operational discipline.

Pushback Against ‘10-Minute Delivery’ Promises

The leadership announcement comes amid wider scrutiny of food delivery and quick-commerce platforms over worker safety. Last week, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha welcomed the Centre’s decision to ask companies to do away with rigid “10-minute delivery” commitments, calling it a win for gig workers’ safety and dignity.

In a video message, Chadha thanked the Central government for intervening, saying that the promise of ultra-fast delivery places immense mental pressure on delivery workers and often forces them to drive recklessly, endangering themselves and others on the road.

Earlier, Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had held meetings with representatives of Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy and Zomato in New Delhi, urging them to remove strict delivery-time guarantees from their platforms and promotional material. He emphasised that the safety of delivery partners must take precedence over speed and marketing claims.

The developments underline a period of transition for Eternal—both in leadership and in adapting its business practices to evolving regulatory and social expectations.
