New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested two alleged chain snatchers in East Delhi’s Madhu Vihar area and recovered a gold-like chain along with a stolen motorcycle used in the crime. The arrests were made following a swift response to a PCR call reporting a chain-snatching incident near the BSES Office opposite Singla Sweets.
Patrolling Team Intercepts Suspects
According to police, officers on routine patrol spotted the accused fleeing the spot on a motorcycle immediately after the snatching. Suspecting foul play, the patrolling team chased the duo and overpowered them after a brief pursuit. During the search, police recovered the snatched chain from their possession.
Stolen Bike Used in Crime
Further verification revealed that the motorcycle used by the accused had been reported stolen earlier and was linked to an e-FIR registered at Mandawali Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Accused Identified as Habitual Offenders
The arrested accused have been identified as Shivam alias Bachkana (23) and Kunal (23), both residents of West Vinod Nagar in East Delhi. Police said both are habitual offenders and have multiple criminal cases registered against them.
Confessed to Multiple Snatching Incidents
During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted involvement in at least four chain-snatching cases in Madhu Vihar and Pandav Nagar after recently being released from jail. Police said both have extensive criminal records related to theft, robbery, snatching, and other offences.
Investigation Underway
Police have registered a case under relevant BNS sections and launched further investigation to determine the duo’s involvement in additional crimes and identify any associates linked to the snatching network.
