Delhi: Entry and exit gates of all metro stations reopen

New Delhi: Amidst protests in central Delhi, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced the reopening of entry and exit gates at all metro stations on Monday evening. DMRC posted on the social media platform X around 5 p.m. stating that entry and exit facilities have been restored at all stations across the Delhi Metro network, with interchange facilities available at the respective stations.

Six metro stations closed for security reasons

Earlier on Monday morning, citing security reasons, entry and exit facilities at six metro stations in central Delhi were temporarily closed. These included Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Mandi House, and Barakhamba Road metro stations.

According to the DMRC, the decision was taken to close the entry and exit gates of these stations from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 12, 2026. However, interchange facilities remained operational at all affected stations during this period.

Facility restored after review by security agencies

In an advisory issued earlier in the day, the DMRC stated that some stations on the Delhi Metro network may be temporarily closed from time to time due to security reasons. The corporation urged passengers to monitor the DMRC’s official website and social media accounts for the latest information regarding station closures and reopenings.

Restrictions imposed amid preparations for a march to the Supreme Court

These restrictions at metro stations come as the Congress-led INDIA alliance is preparing to hold a protest march to the Supreme Court.

Two days earlier, authorities had temporarily closed 45 metro stations in view of a protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).
