New Delhi: The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana has witnessed a strong response from women across the national capital, with more than 2.65 lakh registrations and 52,175 final applications submitted till 2 p.m. on Tuesday, according to an official statement.
The figures show a significant increase from Tuesday morning, when 2.38 lakh women had registered and 38,076 applications had been submitted through the scheme’s online portal.
Under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, eligible women will receive ₹2,500 every month as financial assistance.
Scheme Aims to Promote Financial Security
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the scheme is designed to go beyond direct cash assistance by promoting savings, digital financial inclusion, social security and long-term financial stability for women.
Launched on August 2, the scheme is expected to benefit nearly 17 lakh women during its initial three-year implementation period.
The Chief Minister said the Delhi Cabinet had originally approved the scheme as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, but it was later renamed Delhi Lakshmi Yojana to better reflect its focus on women’s dignity, prosperity and economic empowerment.
Two Financial Assistance Options
Under the first option, ₹1,000 will be credited every month to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet for daily household expenses, while the remaining ₹1,500 will be deposited in a Recurring Deposit (RD) or Fixed Deposit (FD) account.
Under the second option, the entire ₹2,500 monthly assistance will be deposited in an RD or FD account, enabling beneficiaries to build long-term savings along with interest.
The Delhi government also announced that a digital negative list will be applied to the CBDC wallet, preventing the funds from being used to purchase alcohol, tobacco, narcotic substances, lottery tickets, gambling products or any other prohibited goods and services. According to the government, this measure is intended to ensure that the financial assistance is used for essential household needs and family welfare.
