New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday described the present time as a “golden and opportune moment” for Delhi to accelerate growth, citing favorable governance and political alignment in the region.
He noted that with BJP governments in the neighboring states of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, the circumstances are ideal to unlock the capital’s potential for multi-dimensional development.
Criticism of Previous Dispensation
While addressing a public gathering after inaugurating two major highway projects in the capital worth nearly Rs 11,000 crore, PM Modi criticized the earlier AAP-led administration for fueling controversies such as the “poisoning Delhi” episode during election campaigns. He said that instead of fostering harmony between states, the previous regime deepened divisions.
Good Governance as BJP’s Hallmark
The Prime Minister emphasized that good governance remains the core principle of BJP-led governments across the country. He expressed confidence that the new Delhi government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, will uphold this approach and ensure steady progress for the city.
He also appreciated the administration for its swift response to public concerns, particularly in speeding up the Yamuna cleaning project, which played a key role in the BJP’s electoral success in the capital.
Progress on Yamuna Cleaning and Green Mobility
PM Modi highlighted that around 16 lakh metric tonnes of silt have already been removed from the Yamuna as part of the clean-up initiative.
Turning to green mobility, he pointed out that 650 electric “Devi” buses are already operating in Delhi, with the number expected to surpass 2,000 soon. He said this push toward electric vehicles demonstrates the government’s commitment to creating a clean and green capital.
Highway Projects to Boost Connectivity
The Prime Minister also underlined that the newly inaugurated Delhi sections of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and Dwarka Expressway will significantly ease congestion, cut travel time, and improve connectivity across Delhi and the NCR. These projects, he said, will give the capital a substantial boost in terms of mobility and urban development.
