Delhi Police Debunk Viral Video of ‘Sub-Inspector’ Joining CJP Protest

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday, October 11, dismissed claims made in a viral social media video by a man who alleged that he had resigned from his post as a Sub-Inspector to support the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protest at Jantar Mantar.

Police officials described the claims as misleading and urged the public not to circulate unverified information on social media. According to Delhi Police, verification of official records found no Sub-Inspector matching the details provided by the individual in the video.

“A video is being recirculated on social media in which an individual falsely claims to be a Delhi Police Sub Inspector who recently resigned from service to join the ongoing protest. Verification of Delhi Police records has revealed no Sub Inspector matching the details claimed in the video. The claim is therefore unverified and misleading,” the police said in a statement.

Delhi Police Warn of Legal Action Over Misleading Content

The police cautioned that legal action would be taken in accordance with the law against those found responsible for creating or circulating misleading content.

Officials also pointed out that the same video had circulated during the students’ protest in July 2026, when Delhi Police had already described it as fake.

“Delhi Police had already issued a clarification on this matter on 24 July 2026, and this time the same video is again being circulated with the malicious intent,” the statement said.

The police advised people to rely on verified official information and refrain from sharing unconfirmed claims online.

Viral Video Circulates Amid CJP Protest Over SIR

The clarification comes amid protests in the national capital called by the CJP against the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The protesters have demanded the CEC’s resignation, while Delhi Police have taken extensive security measures to prevent unauthorised gatherings around Jantar Mantar.

In a related development, Delhi Police have registered more than 20 FIRs in connection with attempts to forcibly stage protests in the capital. Officials said the cases involve alleged offences including obstructing official duties, taking the law into one’s own hands and assaulting police personnel.

The police clarification highlights the need to verify claims circulating on social media, particularly during high-profile public demonstrations.
