Delhi braces for 37°C heat as humidity worsens weather

Delhi weather forecast: Temperature may reach 37°C this week

Delhi weather forecast: Temperature may reach 37°C this week

Residents of Delhi are expected to experience a sharp rise in temperatures this week, with the mercury likely to touch around 37°C, according to weather forecasts. The early summer-like conditions are set to intensify the heat across the national capital, making afternoons particularly uncomfortable.

Meteorologists have warned that rising humidity levels will make the heat feel more intense, leading to higher “feels-like” temperatures than the actual reading. As a result, residents may experience warmer and more humid conditions compared to the usual early-March weather.

Typically, daytime temperatures in Delhi during March remain around 30°C on average, with cooler nights. However, a surge to the mid-30s signals an early spell of heat in the city.

Humidity likely to increase discomfort

Weather experts say the combination of high temperature and rising humidity can significantly increase discomfort levels, especially during afternoon hours. When humidity rises, the body’s ability to cool itself through sweating becomes less effective, causing people to feel hotter than the actual temperature.

Humidity in Delhi during March generally fluctuates around 40% on average, but variations during certain days can increase the feeling of heat.

Because of this, even a temperature of 36–37°C can feel several degrees warmer. Experts advise residents to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours and to stay hydrated.

Clear skies and strong sunshine expected

The upcoming days in Delhi are likely to see clear skies and bright sunshine, which will further contribute to the rise in temperature. With little cloud cover, the sun’s radiation directly heats the surface, causing the mercury to climb quickly during the day.

Weather data shows that the capital typically experiences long sunny days in March with nearly eight hours of bright sunshine daily, which accelerates the warming trend as the season progresses.

Morning hours may remain relatively pleasant, but temperatures are expected to rise rapidly by midday and peak in the afternoon.

Early signs of summer conditions

The forecast indicates that Delhi is gradually transitioning from the mild spring conditions of February into the hotter pre-summer phase. While extreme heat waves usually occur during May and June, occasional spikes in temperature during March are not uncommon.

Historical climate data suggests that maximum temperatures in Delhi during late March can reach up to around 38°C, especially under clear sky conditions.

Meteorologists note that such early heat spells could become more frequent as seasonal patterns shift and temperatures fluctuate across northern India.

Advisory for residents

With temperatures expected to rise, authorities and weather experts have advised residents to take precautions to avoid heat-related discomfort. Some key suggestions include:

People working outdoors, including construction workers, delivery staff and traffic personnel, are particularly advised to take extra precautions as the heat intensifies.

Forecast for the coming days

According to the forecast, Delhi’s temperature is likely to remain in the mid-30s Celsius range for the next few days, with warm afternoons and relatively cooler mornings and evenings.

If the warming trend continues, temperatures could rise further toward the end of March as the region moves closer to the peak summer months.

For now, residents of the national capital should prepare for hotter and more humid days ahead, marking an early preview of the summer season.
