New Delhi: Delhi-NCR is likely to experience light rain, cloudy skies and strong winds over the coming days as weather conditions change amid the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon. Several other parts of North India, including Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, may also witness rainfall and gusty winds.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain alerts for 14 states, forecasting heavy showers in several regions over the next few days. Uttarakhand, Bihar and Jharkhand are among the areas expected to experience significant rainfall, while parts of southern India are also likely to receive heavy showers.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the moderate to poor categories, with several monitoring stations recording elevated Air Quality Index (AQI) levels.
Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast: Rain and Strong Winds Until October 14
Delhi, Punjab and Haryana are likely to experience cloudy skies and light rain until October 14. Delhi-NCR may receive light showers accompanied by strong winds on October 10 and 11.
Western and eastern Uttar Pradesh are expected to receive rainfall between October 9 and 11, while eastern Rajasthan may witness light rain on October 12. Strong winds are also likely in western Rajasthan on October 11.
The changing weather is associated with the retreating southwest monsoon, which is expected to bring rainfall to several parts of the country over the coming days.
IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Uttarakhand, J&K and Himachal Pradesh
Uttarakhand is likely to receive heavy rainfall until October 14, according to the IMD. Districts including Pithoragarh, Chamoli and Rudraprayag have been placed under a heavy rain alert.
The department has advised pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra, particularly those visiting Kedarnath and Badrinath, to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories.
Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh may experience heavy showers on October 9 and 10, followed by another spell on October 13 and 14. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are forecast in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Doda, Pulwama, Anantnag, Poonch, Udhampur and Srinagar.
In Himachal Pradesh, Chamba, Kullu, Manali and Shimla are likely to receive rainfall on October 13 and 14.
Bihar, Jharkhand and Northeast India Likely to Receive Rain
Bihar and Jharkhand may experience light to moderate rainfall in some areas until October 11. Thunderstorms and lightning are possible in Patna, Ranchi and Dhanbad, while the IMD has also warned of heavy rainfall in Bihar and the Gangetic plains of West Bengal.
The effects of the retreating monsoon are expected to continue across West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand over the next three to four days.
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to receive rainfall until October 14. Eastern Madhya Pradesh may witness showers until October 11, while Chhattisgarh is likely to receive rain on October 14.
Rewa, Satna and Shahdol in eastern Madhya Pradesh may experience rainfall accompanied by winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph.
Meanwhile, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are expected to receive heavy rainfall between October 9 and 11.
Delhi AQI Today: Dwarka Records 231, R.K. Puram at 219
Delhi’s air quality remained in the moderate to poor categories, with monitoring stations recording different levels of pollution.
Dwarka Sector 8 recorded an AQI of 231, followed by R.K. Puram at 219, Punjabi Bagh at 211 and Narela at 210. Pusa and NSUT Jaffarpur both recorded AQI readings of 203.
Other monitoring stations, including Burari, Badarpur, Mandir Marg, Aya Nagar, CRRI Mathura Road, Chandni Chowk, JNU, Burari Crossing, Ashok Vihar, Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, Jahangirpuri and Rohini, recorded AQI levels ranging from 115 to 198.
The latest readings indicate varying pollution levels across the national capital, with some monitoring locations recording poorer air quality than others.
