New Delhi: The Delhi government has announced a series of measures to tackle rising air pollution during the winter months, including a complete ban on construction and demolition activities from December 10, 2026, to January 20, 2027, doubled parking charges and a 50 per cent work-from-home arrangement for government and autonomous offices.
The measures will be implemented in phases between November 2026 and February 2027, with stricter restrictions scheduled during the peak winter pollution period.
Construction Curbs From November, Complete Ban in December
The government has ordered restrictions on dust-generating demolition work and outdoor civil construction activities from November 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
A complete ban on construction and demolition activities will subsequently remain in force from December 10, 2026, to January 20, 2027, according to the announced winter measures.
Parking Charges to Double
Existing parking charges at authorised parking sites in Delhi will be doubled from November 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027.
Parking facilities owned and operated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be excluded from the revised charges.
The move is aimed at discouraging private vehicle use and encouraging commuters to opt for public transport and other modes of travel during the winter pollution season.
50% Work From Home for Government Offices
Government and autonomous offices have also been directed to implement a 50 per cent work-from-home arrangement from November 1 to February 28.
Under the arrangement, half of the employees will work from home while the remaining half will attend offices, with employees expected to rotate under the system.
Government offices will also follow revised working hours during the winter period. MCD offices will operate from 8:30 am to 5 pm, while offices under the Delhi government will function from 10 am to 6:30 pm.
The measures are part of the Delhi government’s winter pollution-control strategy, with different restrictions scheduled to come into force between November and February.
