Chandigarh: Former Punjab BJP state president Vijay Sampla on Sunday raised the demand for justice in the Ajay Atwal murder case in Abohar. He demanded that sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, also known as the SC/ST Act, be added to the FIR. He also demanded that Shiv Lal Doda’s name be included in the FIR.
Sampla said that just as the family of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotha in Mansa is fighting for justice, Ajay Atwal’s family is also demanding justice. Atwal’s family has not been allowed to conduct a post-mortem on his body for the past week.
Vijay Sampla reached the protest site and demanded justice for the family
Vijay Sampla reached the protest site in Abohar on Sunday. MLA Sandeep Jakhar, BJP SC Morcha State President Sheetal Anurag, District President Sukhwinder Singh Kaka Kamboj, and Muktsar District President Kuldeep Singh Bhangewala were also present.
Addressing the protesters, Sampla urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that the government should stop protecting the real culprits in the Ajay Atwal case and take appropriate action against Shiv Lal Doda as well.
He warned that if the government fails to deliver justice, the ongoing struggle for Parvinder Singh Jhotha in Mansa and Ajay Atwal in Abohar could spread across Punjab.
Mentioned being a witness in the Bhim Tank massacre
Sampla said that it is no secret that Ajay Atwal was a witness in the 2015 Bhim Tank massacre. Shiv Lal Doda is serving a life sentence in this case.
He said that the BJP had fought for justice for the Bhim Tank family at that time and now, injustice will not be allowed to happen to Ajay Atwal’s family.
Allegations against Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann
Vijay Sampla also targeted Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann. He alleged that both leaders had previously promised justice to Bhim Tank’s family and a government job for a family member under the Delhi government.
Sampla alleged that instead of helping the family, the government ignored them and formed an alliance with Shiv Lal Doda, convicted in Bhim Tank’s murder case. He claimed that those who perpetrated injustice against the same family are still being supported.
Government should not test the patience of the Dalit community: Sampla
Sampla said that the government should not test the patience of the Dalit community. He warned that if Ajay Atwal’s family does not receive justice, the ongoing protest in Abohar could escalate into a statewide movement across Punjab.
He demanded the government take appropriate action in the case and provide justice to the victim’s family.
