Dengue cases in Manipur mount to 5,502 despite declining outbreak intensity

Imphal: Even as the dengue outbreak in Manipur has shown signs of declining, four more infections were reported in the last 24 hours from the two Imphal Valley districts. With this, the total number of dengue cases in the state has risen to 5,502 so far this year, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the report issued by S. Priyokumar Singh, State Malaria Officer under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, Imphal West recorded three new cases, while Imphal East logged one.

Imphal West Worst Hit, One Death Reported This Year

The state has tested around 11,700 people for dengue since January, of which 5,502 tested positive. One death was reported earlier this year in Bishnupur district.

Imphal West remains the worst affected with 3,706 cases, followed by:

  • Imphal East: 1,206

  • Bishnupur: 148

  • Thoubal: 127

  • Senapati: 68

  • Kakching: 61

  • Ukhrul: 57

  • Chandel: 32

Jiribam reported just one case, while Pherzawl district has reported zero cases so far.

The department continues to follow NVBDCP guidelines in managing the outbreak.

Health Dept Intensifies Fogging, Awareness Drives Amid Ideal Breeding Conditions

An official from the Health and Family Welfare Department said the surge in dengue cases—especially in the Imphal Valley—can be attributed to prolonged monsoon rains and stagnant water, ideal conditions for Aedes mosquito breeding.

Authorities have increased:

  • Fogging operations

  • Anti-larval measures

  • Public awareness drives

Municipal bodies and the Urban Development Department have urged residents to maintain hygiene, eliminate stagnant water, and use repellents and mosquito nets.

People showing symptoms such as high fever, rash, and body aches have been advised to seek immediate medical help to avoid complications.
